Kilroy is dedicated to introducing, organizing and running competitive robotics in King George, Spotsylvania, and Stafford counties Support comes from the Commonwealth Governor's School and a variety of local businesses, organizations, and individuals. We compete as Team 339 of the FIRST Robotics Competition from January through April, host the Stafford Regional for the
Virginia/DC FIRST LEGO League at Stafford's Gayle Middle School in November, and sponsor FTC teams at Colonial Forge,
Brooke Point and North Stafford high schools. Our membership includes both CGS and non-CGS students, teachers, and professionals from local businesses.
Team members perform all the functions necessary to run a competitive team. They plan marketing strategies to obtain financing, as well as design, construct, program and
operate robots for competitions. In addition to attending regional, state and national robotics events, members participate in a variety of activities throughout the year.
Our ultimate goal for the program is to make the hands-on, real-life experience of competitive robotics available to as many area students as we can. This can stimulate a lifelong interest in science, math, technology and engineering. Graduates from our program
possess critical thinking skills as well as individual and team problem-solving abilities. Stafford County Schools recently incorporated LEGO robotics into their seventh and eighth grade science curriculum and we plan to enlarge our program to include all high schools in the area.
Our success depends on interacting and
cooperating with the business community,
because we depend on you for both financing
and mentors.
